more demos
managed to record three quick guitar instrumental demos tonight. the performances aren’t great, but I at least managed to get the basics of each one. I’m still out of practice, and it really shows in these recordings. of course, the point of this was just to get a thumbnail sketch of the songs so I can work on them further.
First new demos recorded!
I just got finished recording the first new demo tracks for my upcoming album. They are two piano instrumentals that don’t have official titles just yet, I just refer to them as “Mood Piece in C” and “Mood Piece in G.” These are the first real recordings I’ve made since FAWM (not counting the live video I shot back in March (or was it April?).
I’m still sifting through old demos, lyrics, etc. looking for material to pull together and see if I can make an album out of it. I’m getting excited; the process has begun!
So, I’m working on a record
I’m currently gathering material together from which to craft the first Seafarer LP. I’ve got a lot of material to choose from, including this year’s FAWM tracks and what few 50/90 songs I started (not to mention years of demos and other material I’ve accumulated).
Other than that, I don’t have many details at the moment. It’s still in the embryonic stages. But, this is quite exciting indeed.
50/90 - unfinished
I’m sorry to report that I didn’t make it to 50. I lost steam early on, and as of right now, I only have a fraction of what I needed in order to finish. I had 9 songs started before I officially quit, then I started 2 more. So that’s 11 out of 50. The deadline isn’t until 10/1, but I will not be able to finish, due to several reasons both personal and otherwise.
Some of the ones I’ve started on have real potential, however.
50/90 Report #1
As of last night (7/12), I have 7 songs started, and 0 finished. Most of the work so far has gone towards music. At this point, I’m more concerned about getting songs started.
50/90
Welcome to the new blog!
Again, the first post is an announcement: I’m planning on doing another writing project. This time, it’s 50 songs in 90 days. It began as a Yahoo! group, but FAWM is joining forces with them this year.
I’m excited (and scared) about this, especially given how well I pulled off the February project. Lord willing, this one will turn out good too!
It runs from July 4 to October 1.
MO’s performance…. the last for a while
Played again at MO’s again last night. It’ll be the last performance there for a while, since I’m moving to Searcy, AR later this week.
I will miss the little songwriting community.
Setlist:
All I Could Give
The Elevator Was Afraid Of Heights
Mummified
The Captain Hates the Sea
Half?
2 Songs Posted to MySpace
I have just posted MP3’s of “The Captain Hates the Sea” and “The Ballad of GoldSurfer” from February’s recordings. Just click the MySpace link on the left to check them out.
MO’s again!
Performed for the 3rd time at MO’s again last night. Probably the most relaxed I’ve ever felt performing in front of an audience. Only played 3 songs due to a time restraint of sorts: “All I Could Give,” “King of Daydreaming,” and “Mummified.” The last two were debut performances.
This is getting easier and more fun every time!
Once more into the breach
Performed again at MO’s last night. So did my brother.
Much better performance than last time. I was only a little nervous. I sang much closer to on-pitch than usual! Setlist was the same as before except without the “Half?” song. I talked about the writing of the songs more (I barely talked between songs last time).
The performance was filmed, but I have not had a chance to look at it on the computer or do any editing, etc. I’m not sure if it turned out OK or not. If it looks fine, I plan to post at least one song.
I’m glad that I did this again (after the last performance I considered not ever performing again).
